Ball suggestion/help. ProV1 ProV1X combo.

Recommended Posts

I’ve been switching back and forth the last few seasons between the ProV1 and X, in play and in practice. I’m a higher swing speed player too to bottom through the bag, driver speed is usually 113-116 mph.

What I’ve found is that off the tee, I have more control with the ProV1, it spins less and holds its line better, where the X can get too spinny at times and drift further on less than ideal strikes. Irons and wedges on the other hand, I prefer the X. The flight and spin are excellent.

I like both balls, but if they had a baby that had spin and flight characteristics right down the middle it would likely be the best ball for me. If the rules of golf allowed me to tee off with a ProV1 and then switch it out for an X, that’s how I would play.

My question is, in your travels, does this ball exist?

Nope.

The Pro V1 is the "middle ball"  in between the AVX and the Pro V1x.

There's nothing in between the Pro V1 and Pro V1x
unless it's one of those "dash" models that I know nothing about.

And in my case, I could play all three and not really notice much of a difference.

I stick with the Pro V1x just to not introduce variables,
but with my game, it's mostly in my head.

What is your spin rate off driver?  You may be able to get a driver fit to give you less spin and still use the ProV1x.  I had a similar challenge and went and tested various driver heads and shafts to lower my spin off driver from about 3000ish to 2100.  Made a big difference.

Driver - Titleist GT3

7, 5, 3 Wood - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke

Irons -  Callaway Apex (PW-5) or Titleist T100 (5-PW)

Wedges - Callaway Opus (50, 54, 58) or Vokey (50, 54, 58)

Putter - PXG Allan or L.A.B. Mezz Max

Ball - Titleist Pro V1x

I typically hover around 2100 with the ProV1, the X a little more closer to 2500. I think the main thing I notice on course, especially if it’s windy, is the X will exaggerate spin sometimes, almost like a delayed fade or draw once it’s apexed. Where the V1 will penetrate through that and hold its line. I’m also planning to text out the left dash to see if that unlocks anything.

Not having played any other OEM balls, I was wondering if a different brand had a ball that sat relatively between them.

I think you can get the spin down on your driver.  The characteristics you are seeing can be a result of spin.  The left dash will have less spin tans lower launch than the ProV1x.

anothe ball you might look at is the Callaway chrome tour and chrome tour X.  Very similar to ProV1 and prov1x.  Fantastic ball.
